Eric Collins

IRON MOUNTAIN – Eric G. Collins, 42, of Arlington Heights, Ill., passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 17, as a result of a pulmonary embolism.

Eric was born to Bruce and Janice (Bjorne) Collins of Kingsford on May 15, 1971, and was a 1989 graduate of Kingsford High School. He graduated from St. Norbert College in 1993 with a degree in psychology and communications. It was there he met the love of his life, Laura McCaskey, and they were united in marriage on Sept. 2, 2000.

He served as interim director of Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in Crystal Falls, where he developed many lasting friendships. Eric served as the senior manager, human resources business partner for Lundbeck Inc. in Deerfield, Ill.

Eric’s loves were his faith, friends (especially “The Boys”) and the Chicago Bears. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Wayside Parish in Arlington Heights.

Together he and Laura were a wonderful team in raising their four children. He spent every minute he could with them and enjoyed supporting their activities and coaching their teams, especially swimming. He also currently participated in a master’s swimming program. He was a member of Our Lady of Wayside Parish.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laura; cherished children, Lillian (10), Evan (8), Leah (6), and Ethan (4); devoted son of Bruce and Janice Collins, loving brother of Todd (Kim) Collins of Aurora, Ill. and a sister, Kirstin (Matt) Rose of Cedarburg, Wis.,dear son-in-law of Lil (Don) Korff and the late Timothy McCaskey; fond brother-in-law of Kevin McCaskey, Brian (Amanda) McCaskey and Scott (Nancy) McCaskey and fun, loving uncle of Anthony, Emily, Hannah, Grace, Hayden, Madeline, Abigail, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn and Emily.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edwin and June Bjorne and George and Helen Collins.

His circle of friends extended throughout the country. As one friend said, “To know Eric was to love Eric.”

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 22, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (Northwest Highway/ Route 14 at Rand Road) Des Plaines, Ill.

Funeral will be Wednesday, April 23, beginning with prayers at 10 a.m. at the funeral home and proceed to Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell St., Arlington Heights for funeral Mass at 11a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Eric G. Collins Memorial Fund (to benefit his children’s education) c/o Oehler Funeral Home appreciated.
