Chase suspect sought

HOUGHTON – Houghton police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in a domestic situation Friday night who subsequently fled police in a high-speed chase.

Travis Koupus, 26, was allegedly involved in a domestic situation at Walmart about 6:30 p.m. He then fled the scene after striking a vehicle in the parking lot, leading police on a chase of up to 90 miles an hour. The chase wound through Houghton and Hancock onto M-26, police said. For the public’s safety, police stopped the pursuit in Dollar Bay because of Koupus’s erratic driving.

At the time of the chase, Koupus was driving a black 1999 Chevrolet 1500 extended cab pickup truck with Michigan registration of BBV 4060. He is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Houghton Police Department at (906) 487-5912 or 911.
