Larson, O’Neil ‘Athletes,’ banquet June 4

IRON MOUNTAIN – Kingsford’s Amber Larson and North Dickinson’s Logan O’Neil were named the Hometowne Lumber Athletes of the month for March.

Larson opened the Flivvers girls track season as the team’s top point earner at the Northland Pines indoor meet. She took third in the 55-meter dash and fourth in the 200 while helping the 800-meter relay team to a second-place finish.

O’Neil, recently wrapping up his senior season on the Nordics boys basketball team, earned second-team All-Skyline Conference. O’Neil averaged 15 points, 5.5 assists, 3 rebounds and 3.5 steals during ND’s tournament run.

Other nominated for March included Kingsford’s Jack Glodowski (track) and Niagara’s Marah Harvath (basketball).

The 34th annual Hometowne Lumber Athlete of the Year banquet will be held at the Pine Mountain Lodge on Wednesday, June 4, beginning at 5 p.m. The 2014 male and female athletes of the year will be announced.

Former Iron Mountain football coach and U.P. Hall of Fame member Tom Wender will be the evening’s guest speaker.
