Michael Ward Jr.

IRON MOUNTAIN – Michael E. Ward Jr., 28, of Springhill, Fla., formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Sept. 4, 1985, in Hampton, Va., son of Michael E. Ward Sr. and Renee (Oberlin) Nokes. At the age of three Michael moved to Iron Mountain with his family. He lived here until he was 14, and then moved to Florida to live with his father. Michael received his diploma in Plantation, Fla. He attended Tampa College and was working on receiving his certificate to become a firefighter.

Michael had a love for music and worked as a DJ in Florida and Georgia. He enjoyed snowboarding, the beach, football and the outdoors. He was a big fan of the Florida Gators. Michael’s positive attitude helped many friends through difficult times. His family and friends meant everything to him.

Michael is survived by his loving parents, Michael Ward Sr. of Springhill, Fla.; his mother, Renee (Pat) Nokes of Iron Mountain; his brothers and sisters, Christopher Wesley Ward of Iron Mountain, Danielle Renee Ward of Kingsford, Jordan Ward of Springhill, and Shayla Ward of Luxemberg, Wis.; two nephews, Blake A. and Brock C. Flaminio; maternal grandparents, Dave L. and Patricia K. Oberlin of Escanaba; paternal grandmother, Sabra Ward of Springhill; a very special aunt, Michelle Fiore of Escanaba; his best friend, Billy Lee of Omaha, Ga.; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William A. Ward Sr. and two cousins, James Arthur Oberlin and Aubrey Joy Oberlin.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

A celebration of life service will follow Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Jim Danielson will officiate.

Burial will be in Republic Township Cemetery in the spring.
