John Kriegl

FLORENCE, Wis. – John H. “Jack” Kriegl, 67, of Florence, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Jack was born May 21, 1946, in Chicago, son of the late Carl and Florence (Hasse) Kriegl. He graduated from Florence High School in 1964, and was a lifelong resident of the area. Jack attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for his undergraduate studies and went on to obtain his master’s degree in administration from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

He married Simone M. Beauchamp on Aug. 30, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Church in Iron Mountain.

Jack was employed by the Florence School District, where he spent 18 years as a teacher and 18 years as principal, retiring in 2004. He truly enjoyed his work as an educator, making lifelong friendships and having a positive impact on the lives of many students.

Jack spent many years teaching children an appreciation for the environment through his ownership of “Friends of the Forest,” at Lost Lake in Tipler, Wis. Jack had a love for people and enjoyed making people laugh. He was a wonderful storyteller and a compassionate motivational speaker. He was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway, where he served in many capacities.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for trapping. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing and peeling popple. Jack was a talented taxidermist who enjoyed the thrills and smiles behind each hunt. He liked traveling to Alaska and Hawaii and taking deer, moose, and pheasant hunting trips. Jack spent countless hours sharing his gift and love for the piano with his family. He enjoyed attending and helping coach many of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events as well as each winter building the luge.

He followed the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers and was a big Brett Favre fan. Faith and family were the staples of Jack’s life, and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his wife, Simone; four children, Joseph J. (Laura) Kriegl of Kingsford, John C. (Nicole) Kriegl of Breitung Township, Aundrea (John) Coon of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Jaclynn (Jason) Kreider of Florence; his stepmother, Doris Kriegl of Suring, Wis.; a brother, Jerry (Donna) Kriegl of Quinnesec; two sisters, Yvonne (David) Olsen of Homestead, and Sandy (Jay) Schabloski of Oshkosh, Wis.; grandchildren, Jordyn, Brooke and Jack Kriegl, Jaelyn and Addisyn Kriegl, Isabelle, John, Alexaundrea and Analise Coon, and Madelynn, Mylee, Mckynzee and Mataya Kreider; a special exchange student, Ana Maria (Selim) Jarmillo-Bouri of France and her children Lucas and Mateo Bouri.

He is further survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Michael Momont and their children, Michael (Jamie), Christopher and Elizabeth Momont; a very special aunt, Marie Cormier and her children, Jim (Madonna) Cormier and Joy (Jim) Clifford.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 19, from noon until 4 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. A service celebrating Jack’s life will follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
