Joan C. Miller

HOMESTEAD – Joan C. Miller, 83, of Homestead, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Joan was born in Kingsford to Magdalene (Trudeau) and George Dagger. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1948. On July 31, 1950, she married Darrel Miller with whom she built a home and raised a family in Homestead.

Over her life, Joan worked at the Braumart and Colonial Theaters, Kresge’s, the Piggly Wiggly (Duluth, Minn.) and Red Owl grocery stores, and she retired from K-mart in 1988. She served her community as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, secretary of the Ladies’ Aid of the Aurora Free Church and the health officer for the township of Homestead.

Joan explored a diversity of interests. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, gardening, fishing, cooking and baking. She was still baking homemade bread, and her cookie jar was never empty.

She is survived by her husband, Darrel; a son, Steve (Lolly) of Kingsford; two daughters, Doreen (Rick) Trevino of Tucson, Ariz., and Carol (Mark Seitz) of Holmen, Wis.; three grandchildren, Andre’ Miller, Tawnie Knight and Joseph “J.De” (Amanda) Miller; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Miller, Taylor Knight and Joey Miller; her sisters, Donna (Ira) Banks, Sheila Brown and Patty Presnall; and one brother, Mike Dagger.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George “Bing” Dagger.
