IRON MOUNTAIN – An Illinois man has been accused of attempting to smuggle marijuana into the Dickinson County Jail.
Mack Harvey Heard, 20, of Richton Park, Ill. faces one felony count of either furnishing contraband to prisoners or prisoner possessing contraband.
If convicted, he could spend up to five years in prison.
An arraignment in Dickinson County Circuit Court is set for May 5.
The charge stems from a March 27 incident in Iron Mountain.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, Heard was booked into the jail on March 26. The complaint does not list what his original offense was.
On the following day, corrections staff performed a strip search on Heard and discovered two plastic bags containing suspected drugs on his person, the complaint states.
Heard allegedly admitted that the substance in the bags was marijuana.
