Junior high ‘Gold’ title goes to Norway’s girls

HERMANSVILLE – Norway’s girls claimed the junior high championship at the 76th Annual Gold Medal Classic basketball tournament Thursday evening, holding off North Central 26-17.

In the Class C final, Tom’s Disposal handled RFW Construction 83-68. Christian Harris netted 20 points and Jake Polfus added 17 more in the win. Travis DuPont (13) and Tom Granquist (12) led RFW.

In Class E, Skip’s Auto and Juice Promotions punched tickets to a final.

Skip’s knocked off LaBelles 71-62 behind 16 points from Terry Kientz, overcoming a 23-point effort by Kyle Bellefeuil.

Juice edged Jim’s Plumbing 94-91, getting 26 points from Harris. Nick DeJonette scored 28 in the loss.

Skips’ and Juice meet tonight in the Class E final at 9 p.m.

Tonight’s action tips off at 6 p.m. with Bark River and Stephenson in a junior high game. Shamco and Kakuks decide the Class D championship at 7 p.m., and Norway and North Central go at it in another junior high contest at 8 p.m.

The Gold Medal Classic runs through Sunday.
