Thirsty Whale wins Gold Medal ‘Rec’ crown

HERMANSVILLE – Thirsty Whale, behind 31 points from Kevin Colavecchi, took down Wendricks Truss 97-39 in the championship game of the “Rec” final at the 76th annual Gold Medal Classic Sunday at the Community Club gymnasium.

The “Rec” division final was one of 24 games during the weekend for the tournament that runs through next Sunday.

Sunday’s other contests saw RFW Construction and Tom’s Disposal advance from Class C. RFW knocked off Gary’s Quality Foods 94-63. Tom’s Disposal won 89-73 over Jeffrey John Seamless Gutters.

In Class D, Shamco beat Big R 72-68, and Superior Welding downed Moonlight Graphics 73-66. Other ‘D’ games saw McNeil Oilers beat Crane Engineering 67-59 and Juice Promotions taking Getz Dairy 106-90.

In Class E, Skip’s Auto defeated Auto Plus 62-50, Vulcan Wood Products fell to Juice Promotions 88-83, and Jim’s Plumbing edged Lakeside Bed and Breakfast 63-61.

Sunday’s Class EE action saw the Stephenson Strollers fall to Getz Dairy 73-37. Juice Promotions got by AA Drain 89-84, and Whitens Dry Kiln control Greenleafs/Solbergs 71-56.

Three games take place tonight beginning at a 6 p.m. with a Class EE contest between Kaykuk and Getz. A girls junior high tilt between North Central and Norway follows with a Class C semifinal closing out the action.
