Two hurt in shooting

MARQUETTE – Two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following a shooting incident which occurred in Marquette early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., the Marquette Police Department responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of West Bluff Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. One victim is a 21-year-old from Ishpeming, the other a 33-year-old from Illinois.

Both victims were transported to Marquette General Hospital emergency room.

No individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting, officers said. An earlier press release had stated that a suspect was taken in to custody.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Marquette Police Department.

Assisting on the scene were the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, NMU Public Safety, Chocolay Township Police Department, Marquette Fire Department and Marquette General EMS.
