Work on Lake Antoine Road may resume in mid-May
IRON MOUNTAIN – The Lake Antoine/Quinnesec Road improvement project that began last fall is scheduled to resume as soon as the weather allows, tentatively by mid-May.
Officials from the Dickinson County Road Commission said that, under this schedule, the contractor could complete paving by mid-June.
However, spring weight restrictions could also affect the completion date, said officials.
The project began last fall with culvert replacement and undercutting.
Work to be completed this spring will require traffic to be maintained under flag control.
Lake Antoine Road connects U.S. 2 near Quinnesec to U.S. 2 on the north side of Iron Mountain. The road provides an unofficial bypass of downtown Iron Mountain for large commercial vehicles and offers access to the main driveway of the Systems Control facility.
Deteriorating conditions made it necessary for the road commission to prohibit truck traffic on the road. Improvements will restore the road to all-season status and lift the current prohibition on truck traffic.
All-season status means that load restrictions will not need to be implemented each spring.
