KINGSFORD – Eugenie Karpenski, 90, of Kingsford, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at HCR ManorCare in Kingsford.
She was born on Nov. 28, 1923, in Norway, the daughter of the late Elvis and Rosalie (Van Laere) Lundin. She graduated from Norway High School in 1942, and married Michael Opolka the same year.
After working briefly in Detroit, she returned to Norway and worked in the Canning Factory and at Needle Craft. She married Joseph Karpenski in 1951, and together they ran Karpenski’s Tavern in Loretto for many years. Later she worked as director of the Norway Senior Citizen Center until her retirement in 1988.
She touched the lives of everyone she met, was devoted to her family and children, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a shining light in our lives.
She leaves a daughter, Wanda (Bruce) Donaldson, of Conroe, Texas; a son, Joseph of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Jacobson of Rockford, Mich.; her granddaughters, Lucinda and Luanna; plus many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard; and her husband, Joseph.
At the request of the family, there will be no funeral services.
