KINGSFORD – Beatrice J. “Bea” Johns, 94, of Kingsford, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born June 13, 1919, in Escanaba, daughter of the late Thomas and Amanda (Peterson) Olson. Bea graduated from Three Lakes High School in 1936. She married Thomas “Tommy” Johns on March 25, 1940, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rhinelander, Wis. Together they owned and operated Tommy’s Tap in Kingsford for more than 40 years. Tommy preceded her in death on July 12, 1994.
Bea was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed shooting pool, knitting, and playing cards, especially cribbage.
She is survived by a daughter, Roxanna “Roxie” Miller of Iron Mountain; a brother-in-law, Richard (Rose) Johns of Rhinelander; two grandchildren, Amanda List and William (Debra) Miller, both of Iron Mountain; three great-grandchildren, Tommy and Stephanie List and Devin Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Bea was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William R. “Bill” Miller; two brothers; and five sisters.
Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.
