John Mikus

POWERS – John Allan Mikus, 84, of Powers, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1930, in Powers, son of the late Julius and Verna (Wolfe) Mikus. On Oct. 20, 1956, he married the former Judith Povolo at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hermansville.

John is a 1947 graduate of Powers-Spalding High School. After graduation, he served his country from 1950 to 1954 in the U.S. Air Force, becoming a veteran of the Korean War. John then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1990. He was a proud member of the Tony Revord American Legion post 244.

John is survived by his wife; two sisters, Dorothy (Gerald) Williams and Phyllis (Dan) Zeck; and also nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elaine Rabitoy; and three brothers, Julius Mikus Jr., Ernest Mikus and Irving Mikus Sr.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Central time on Friday, March 28, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding, with Tony Revord American Legion Post 244 rites at 2:45 p.m.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of John Mikus will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral.

Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
