Suspect charged in fatal hit-and-run crash
NEGAUNEE – Troopers from the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police have released the name of the suspect arrested Monday who is accused of a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Marquette County’s Powell Township.
Michael Nels Nelson, 46, of Big Bay was arraigned Tuesday in Marquette County District Court. He will return to court for a preliminary examination on April 7.
Troopers said that Nelson remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $150,000 cash bond.
Nelson faces one felony count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident, when at fault, resulting in death. If convicted, he could spend up to 15 years in prison.
Killed in the Dec. 17 crash was pedestrian Robin Lynn Rahoi, 54, of Big Bay.
