Four hurt in crash

MUNISING – Four people were taken by ambulance to Marquette General Hospital after being injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday night in Alger County’s Mathias Township, said state police at the Munising detachment of the Negaunee post.

The crash occurred at about 7:20 p.m. (Eastern time) on Gilliand Road when a westbound vehicle driven by Joseph Parkkila, 17, of Munising, failed to stop at Eben Trenary Road and collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Rodney Gerth, 61, of Rumely.

Three passengers in Gerth’s vehicle and one in Parkkila’s vehicle were transported to the hospital with injuries, troopers said.

Parkkila was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Troopers were assisted by the Alger County Sheriff Department, Mathias Township Fire Department and First Responders, Alger County EMS and Marquette General EMS.
