Donald “Flip” Flaminio

IRON MOUNTAIN – Donald “Flip” Flaminio, 83, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Domenic “Patty” and Hilma (Anderson) Flaminio. Don graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1949 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country for three years. Don married Zella “Terri” Haggart on Feb. 7, 1953, in Iron Mountain. He worked in sales for various companies over the years. Don also owned and operated Quality Cleaners in Iron Mountain for 10 years.

He was an avid golfer and long-time member of Pine Grove Country Club. Don was also a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed playing cards weekly with his friends, going to camp and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Terri; three daughters, Judy (Dan) Benishek of Crystal Falls and their children, Mick (Bernadette) Grunlund, Adrienne (Neil) Black, Joe (Stephanie) Benishek, Kirby (Dean) Emerson and Todd Benishek; Mary Jean Flaminio (Michael Sommers) of Germantown, Wis., and her children, Jaclyn, Carly and Erin Anderson; and Sandy (Doug) Delie of Green Bay, Wis., and their children, Cassandra (Brendan) Baier, Katelyn Kaminski (Kyle Vanderloop), Krystal (Bryan) Schneidewind, Jacquelyn (Jared) Birkholz, Alyse Delie, and Eric (Shella) Delie; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Marion) Flaminio of Iron Mountain; a sister, Noreen Gussert of Kingsford; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by a son, Joey; brother, Ken (Barb) Flaminio; two sisters, Jean (Leo) Paoli and Geraldine (Louie) Perucco; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Gussert.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at noon at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Don’s memory.
