Police respond to false report of armed individual

MARINETTE, Wis. – The Marinette County Central Dispatch center received a 911 call reporting an armed individual at the Crivitz Community Center on Thursday.

The call was made at 6:12 p.m. by a male who said that people were screaming and in need of help.

The Crivitz Police Department and the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Community Center and determined that no armed individuals or other threats existed at that location, said Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

Approximately 50 patrons were evacuated from the Community Center and it was closed for the remainder of the evening.

According to Sauve, investigation into the source of the 911 call led to the arrest of a juvenile male, and it was confirmed that the information received during the call was falsely reported.

No further threat to the community exists, Sauve said.

Referrals have been made to the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office and Marinette County Social Services for review and possible formal charges.
