Escanaba man stabbed

ESCANABA – A 73-year-old Escanaba man was arrested for felonious assault this weekend in connection with the stabbing of a male victim in Ford River Township, according to Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post.

Troopers arrested the suspect Saturday evening after responding to an 8:45 p.m. emergency call to Delta County Central Dispatch advising of a stabbing incident inside a residence, according to a news release from the post.

The victim, a 44-year-old man from Escanaba, was transported by Delta County Emergency Medical Services to OSF St. Francis Hospital where he was treated for knife wounds. The extent of the victim’s injuries and his condition is unknown, said a trooper this morning.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and remains lodged in Delta County Jail on one count of felonious assault, also known as assault with a dangerous weapon. The felony carries a maximum sentencing of four years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

The name of the suspect is being withheld pending his arraignment in Delta County District Court. He is expected to appear in court this morning for formal authorization of charges.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by personnel from Delta County Sheriff’s Department and Escanaba Public Safety.

Police were not releasing any additional information on the incident this morning.
