Man left for dead near Crandon

CRANDON, Wis. – Authorities say four adults and two juveniles have been arrested after a man was badly beaten and left for dead in the woods near Crandon.

The four adult suspects are now facing attempted homicide charges.

Court records say the victim was found Wednesday and his injuries are so severe a leg may require amputation. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, Wis., then transferred via helicopter to a hospital in Marshfield, Wis.

Authorities say the victim was assaulted Monday and Tuesday in a home in Wabeno, Wis., then was taken more than 20 miles to Crandon, where he was left for more than 20 hours.

He was found Wednesday by two all-terrain vehicle drivers. A search of the Wabeno home turned up iron shackles and handcuffs.

Authorities say the adult suspects beat the victim because they believed he touched a child inappropriately.

Formal charges have not yet been filed, but the Forest County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of the four adult suspects and the charges being sought.

Raymond Jones, 45, was arrested for attempted first degree homicide, strangulation or suffocation, reckless injury, battery, cause mental harm to a child, contributing to the delinquency of a child, recklessly endanger safety, intimidation of a victim, and false imprisonment.

April Jones, 38; Justin Bey, 21; and Samantha McClellan, 18, were each arrested for attempted first degree homicide as party to a crime, duty to aid a victim, cause mental harm to a child, contributing to the delinquency of a child, false imprisonment, reckless injury, and battery.

The names of the juvenile suspects have not been released.
