Lois Kopp

IRON MOUNTAIN – Lois Mae Kopp, 85, passed from this life on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.

Lois was born on Oct. 15, 1928, daughter of the late Rasmus “Ross” and Elvera (Franco) Oien. She was a lifelong resident of this area and a 1947 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. She had a brother, Frank Oien and a sister, Carol (Robert) Calcari.

On Dec. 15, 1948, she married the love of her life, Howard “Buster” Kopp of Kingsford. Together, Lois and Buster raised five children.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Laurie) Kopp of Kingsford, John (Cathy) Kopp of Menominee, Mary Jo (Chet) Shields of Menasha, Wis., and Laura (Mike) Paquin of Iron Mountain; 12 grandchildren, Michelle (Ken) Althen, Tony (Rebecca) Sculati, Rachael Kopp, Ross (Deanna) Kopp, Beth Raymond, Jessica Kopp, Angela Kopp, Johnna (Kyle) Durow, Nathan Shields, Anna Shields, Nicole Paquin and Megan Paquin; 13 great-grandchildren (with an additional two great-grandchildren on the way); two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol (Robert) Calcari of Iron Mountain. She was Auntie Lois to many nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Buster” in 1996; her son, Joseph; and her brother, Frank Oien.

She enjoyed her family and friends, going to the casino, playing cards, playing dominos with her grandchildren, and doing crossword, sudoku and jigsaw puzzles. She also liked to watch movies and golf on TV.

Lois worked at the Bath Agency before having her children, was a stay-at-home mom until going to work at Auto Glass Specialists, and retired after many years as bookkeeper for Cable Constructors Inc.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain.

Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Father Daniel Zaloga will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hyland Nursing Home for their wonderful care of Lois.
