MARQUETTE – Laverne Erickson, 86, formerly of Crystal Falls, entered eternal life on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in the loving care of her family.
Born June 17, 1927, in Crystal Falls, a daughter of Steve and Olga (Anderson/Gullman) Stone, Laverne was raised in Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School. She married Paul Erickson, and together the couple established a home and began raising their family in the Crystal Falls area.
To Laverne, family was everything, and she thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for them. She began working outside the home, briefly at the mill in Amasa, and later as a cook at the Crystal Falls Hospital. Following retirement, she enjoyed gardening, volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul, and served as a caregiver to her mother and aunt until their passing.
Laverne is survived by her daughter, Gail (Jack) Schneider of Marquette; her son, David (Ophelia) Erickson of Mill Creek, Wash.; her three grandchildren, Nicholas Schneider, Lindsay Schneider and Stacey Erickson; a great-grandson, Lincoln Specker; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; a sister, Bernice; and brothers, Wallace and Raymond.
Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
