Pine Mountain proves a tough test

IRON MOUNTAIN – Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers (MASTERS) competed Saturday at Pine Mountain.

The snowmobile hillclimbers encountered a worthy foe in “Bulldozer,” located to the side of the Pine Mountain ski jump landing area.

“It turned out to be one of the most challenging hillclimbs our circuit has run in years,” said Skip Schulz, president of the 20-year-old MASTERS.

Throughout both qualifying rounds, only one driver was able to make it successfully through the timing chute at the top of the hill. That was Baraga’s Kyle Wadaga, who accomplished the feat during the first round of the Pro Stock 800 Class.

The MASTERS Ojibwa Casino Hillclimb Series will now go to Keyes Peak in Florence on Saturday, March 15.

“The Wisconsin State Championship Hillclimb is going to be a whole new ballgame for our hillclimbers,” Schulz said. “It will include a lot of speed, finesse, and something that both the drivers and the fans are going to enjoy.”

It will be at Keyes Peak that the MASTERS will bring back hillcross, a mix of both snow cross and uphill drags.
