CUP names girls hoops stars

ESCANABA – Vanessa Freberg of league champion Superior Central was a unanimous choice as the Central U.P. Conference most valuable player.

The senior also collected the CUP defensive player of the year award. Freberg paced CUP free throw shooters with an 85 percent mark (23-27).

North Central’s Morgan Wells made the second team while teammates Baylee Wells and Kennedy Faccio received honorable mention.

Morgan Wells of North Central was selected to the all-defensive squad.

Superior Central posted a 10-0 varsity record in the North Division. Bark River-Harris, 8-2, and North Central, 6-4, topped the South Division.

Rapid River won the sportsmanship award. Kortney Jenshak of Bark River-Harris was cited for sportsmanship.

In the junior varsity standings, Munising (9-1) and Bark River-Harris (10-0) led the North and South divisions, respectively. North Central was 1-9.
