Trojans cruise

EWEN – Forest Park rolled into the Class D District 127 boys basketball finals Wednesday.

The Trojans, bolting to a 23-6 lead in the first quarter, thumped Watersmeet 73-45. Forest Park won an early January match-up with the Nimrods 66-39.

“We wanted to come out of the gates fast and we did,” said Coach Chris Nocerini, whose Trojans reeled off 11 straight points in the first period. “We rested a lot of legs tonight and played a lot of kids.”

Lee Graff and 6-foot-7 Austin Carlson each scored 13 points. Daniel Nocerini contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Snell and Kameron Krajewski each chipped in nine points.

“Carlson played well,” said the Trojans coach, noting eight rebounds. “With his size he was that much bigger and stronger than anybody else.”

Forest Park (18-3) and Wakefield-Marenisco (9-10) will clash at 6 p.m. Friday at Ewen-Trout Creek High School for the district championship.

“Wakefield has some good ballplayers and a couple kids than can shoot the three,” Nocerini said. “It will take a good team effort to beat them. We have to bring the defensive intensity like we have the past two nights and run the floor hard.”

Forest Park rallied past Bessemer in the district opener Monday.

Israel Bolton led the Nimrods (10-9) with 11 points.
