IRON RIVER – Eugene G. Stoychoff, 88, of Iron River, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Iron River Care Center.
He was born July 17, 1925, in Bates Township, son of the late Richard “Dick” and Lola (Konell) Stoychoff. He attended Bates School and Iron River High School. He worked in the mines and was a self-employed logger for more than 35 years.
Eugene married the former Shirley Meyer on Aug. 31, 1946, in Iron River, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area.
He loved the outdoors, admired the NRA, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and snowmobiling. He especially loved being around his grandkids.
Eugene is survived by his daughters, JeanAnn (Charles) LaBelle of Marquette, Donna (John) Hohensee of Iron River and Bonnie (Richard) Weatherholt of Iron River; brother, George “Buzzy” Stoychoff of Iron River; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stoychoff of Green Bay, Wis., Arlene Carne of Escanaba, Dorothy Meyer of Iron River and Yvonne Meyer of Iron River; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Patti Ann Stoychoff and Arlove Stoychoff-Howell; brothers, Glen, Arnold, Harley and Marvin Stoychoff; and sister, Marcia DeBrito.
Graveside services and interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery in the spring.
