GLADSTONE – James Vernon Ketcham, 67, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2014, with his loving family at his side.
Jim was born March 20, 1946, in Gladstone, the son of Edward and Violet (Trentin) Ketcham. He was raised in Gladstone and was a graduate of Gladstone High School. In May 1967, Jim was united in marriage to the former Betty Lucier and together the couple made their home and raised their familyn in Gladstone.
Jim was employed at Harnischfeger for 19 years. He later owned and operated “Ketcham’s Country Kitchen” restaurant in Escanaba. In addition, Jim kept himself busy with handyman projects and side jobs throughout the local community. He enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Jim’s hobbies included, woodworking, camping, spending time outdoors on his yard swing, yard work and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, James Scott (Kim) Ketcham of Iron Mountain; daughter, Shelly (Bob) Claycomb of Gladstone; grandchildren, Brittany (John Rockefeller), Abbigale, and Savannah Ketcham, Alyssa, Thomas, and Hannah Claycomb; brothers, Edward (Dorothy) Ketcham of Plymouth, Ind., Robert (Rose) Ketcham of Sauk Village, Ill., Jerry (Vivian) Ketcham of Gladstone, Michael (Laurie) Ketcham of Gladstone, Dennis Ketcham of Gladstone, Ronald Ketcham of Escanaba, Tim (Kathy) Ketcham of McHenry, Ill.; sisters, Wanda (Chuck) Dementer of Naubinway, Sue (Bob) Kohnert of Birnamwood, Wis., Carol Ketcham of Escanaba, and Pat Couillard of Gladstone; sister-in-law, Patsy Ketcham of Escanaba; former wife and friend, Betty. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Violet; brothers, Daniel, Charles and Rodney Ketcham; and brother-in-law, Henry Couillard.
Jim’s family will receive friends on Thursday, from 3 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Personal reflection will be offered at 5:15 p.m. at the funeral home, by Deacon Mike LeBeau of OSF Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow personal reflection at 6 p.m. Thursday at All Saints Church in Gladstone, with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating, assisted by Deacon Mike LeBeau. Luncheon will follow at the Gladstone Senior Center. Dishes may be dropped off at the Gladstone Senior Center starting at 4 p.m.
Jim will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring.
