Knights close out boys hoops regular season

NEGAUNEE – Norway battled Negaunee for a half before bowing to the Mid-Peninsula Conference boys basketball champions 59-28 Saturday.

Coach Ben Leiker’s Knights held a 12-9 lead after the first quarter. But the Miners pulled ahead 28-21 at halftime.

Eric Lori tossed in 14 points to pace Negaunee (19-1 overall, 12-0 MPC). Jay Lori added nine points and Zane Radloff hauled in seven rebounds.

“After the first quarter, we locked (the Knights) down defensively,” Miners’ head coach Mike O’Donnell said. “We changed a couple of things at the half (that worked).

“We also shared the ball and got everyone in the scoring column on our roster. It was a good way to end the (regular) season.”

Nick Bal scored 11 points to lead the Knights (6-12, 2-9).

Norway begins Class C District 95 play at 6 p.m. Wednesday, meeting Iron Mountain or West Iron County in Iron River.
