No injuries in Fence fire

FENCE, Wis. – No one was injured when two attached mobile homes in Fence were destroyed in a fire on Friday.

David Gribble, chief deputy of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, said a 911 call for a structure fire at a residence off Rock Creek Road in the town of Fence was received at 2:18 p.m. Friday.

Fence Fire Chief Jeff Sternhagen said there were two attached mobile homes and when firefighters arrived, the first home was burnt to the ground and the second home was fully engulfed in flames.

Three people inside the residence were able to escape without injury.

Sternhagen said that a preliminary investigation indicates the fire started from a chimney pipe attached to a wood stove, and that the residence is a total loss.

Assisting the Fence Fire Department at the scene were the Florence Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department, Goodman Fire Department, Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Florence Rescue Squad, Wisconsin Public Service, Red Cross and the town of Fence.
