Breitung home damaged in fire

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP – A Breitung Township home sustained structural and water damage following a fire Sunday morning.
The fire started at about 8 a.m. at a residence located at N5489 County Road 607.
Breitung Township Fire Chief Jeff Iverson said that the home’s occupant was able to escape and contact 911.
Firefighters from all three Breitung Township stations responded to the scene, where they observed smoke and flames coming from the attic.
Iverson said that after firefighters extinguished the blaze, they determined that the fire was electrical in nature.
Despite the damage, the structure remained intact, Iverson added. Firefighters cleared the scene at about 10 a.m. Sunday.
Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, WE Energies, and Integrated First Response Ambulance.
