Arnold E. Ahlberg

CRYSTAL FALLS – Arnold E. Ahlberg, 97, of Crystal Falls, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the Iron River Care Center.

He was born in North Dakota, son of the late John and Hilda Ahlberg. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1939 and worked for Borden Dairy following graduation, and later for A.C. Sparkplug in Flint. He owned and operated Ahlberg Pontiac and Implement Company of Crystal Falls for many years prior to his retirement.

Arnold married his wife Sigrid and the couple owned Ahlberg Farm in Stambaugh Township for many years. Sigrid preceded him in death after 55 years of marriage.

He was a member of the Iron County Fair Board, U.P Extension Advisory Committee, the Iron County Soil and Water Conservation District, past president of the Vacationland Dairy Coop of Crystal Falls. He had a passion for farming and in his later years spent much time helping his son on the farm. He was a mentor to many young farmers. He love hunting and enjoyed sharing stories of his many hunting adventures.

Arnold is survived by his son, Jon (Donna) Ahlberg of Iron River; daughters, Ingrid Ahlberg of New Hampshire and Amy (Hadis) Morkoc of Virginia; five grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Edith Erickson.
