IRON MOUNTAIN – Following Thursday night’s winter storm, a winter weather advisory remains in effect for the local area throughout the day today.

Overnight snow totals include 3.7 inches in Iron Mountain, two inches in Norway, 3.8 inches at the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Wastewater Treatment Plant in Breitung Township, and 4.3 inches at the West Iron County Sewer Authority in Caspian.

Dave Petrovich, meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, said that residents of Dickinson and Iron counties can expect another inch of snow accumulation today.

However, Petrovich noted that the real concern today will be blowing snow. West winds around 25 miles per hour are predicted, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, he said.

Florence and northern Marinette counties in Wisconsin are also under a winter weather advisory throughout the day today. Residents of those counties can expect less than an inch of additional snow accumulation and strong west winds.
