We become slaves to sin

EDITOR:

This is in response to Feb. 14 Letter to the Editor titled ‘For the greater good of all.’

All includes Christians too, and America was built upon God’s principles. Therefore, if you want to come to America, it should be to live as our founding fathers set forth in the laws they established, and, these were based on the Ten Commandments, not ten suggestions.

I don not care what people do in their own homes or what language they speak there. I do care when what they do in their own home affects my hard-earned money. The government doesn’t make/earn money. It uses our tax money and fees for all of its give-away programs.

When an unwed female has a baby and expects someone else to pay the bills, that is our money. When someone gets AIDS and does not have insurance that they paid for, then our money is used to pay for the consequences of what they did in their home.

Yes, America does welcome the tired, poor and huddled masses yearning to breathe free. It does not say give me your free-loaders, lazy, selfish, defiant and rebellious who want to destroy America and all it stood for when it became one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.

Our government, itself, has taken our freedoms from us. It tells us what we should eat, controls the air that we breathe, the gas we use in our cars, the doctors we can go to, the drugs that we can take for an illness, the insurance we have to buy, what tests that a doctor can prescribe for us, what our minister/priest can and cannot talk about in church, what guns we can own, how to run our own businesses and on and on it goes.

Just today I heard on the news that if you have Lupus, MS, or some other pre-existing condition that does not have a generic of the pill/medicine that is necessary to treat the condition you could spend $62,000 a year and it would not count toward your deductible on Obama’s healthcare insurance plan.

We, who take pride in supporting ourselves by putting in long hours, sacrificing wants for needs, and are being accountable and penalized with exorbitant taxes so the government can continue to control our lives and support its give-away programs.

Our government isn’t helping able-bodied people by allowing/encouraging them to be dependent on the government. It is destroying America’s work ethic. Today, when I see supposedly low-income parents and children with cell phones, i-Pads, i-Pods, tablets and other electronics I remember that when I grew up there was only one phone in the whole town and that was a pay phone.

We were married 10 years before we had a phone and yet – I never felt deprived. (Today the only electronic device in my home is a cellphone and I still don’t feel deprived.)

We took pride in our families and our work. We looked forward to Sunday when we went to church, had a big Sunday dinner and rested. We trusted God, not big government. No matter how corrupt government has become my faith is still in the God of the Bible and he promises to never leave us or forsake us.

He will still be the same long after America is no more, because it turned away from God. I believe that the more we turn away from God the less freedom we truly have. We become slaves to sin and don’t even realize it.

America is no longer the land of the free.
