IRON MOUNTAIN – Richard Robert Sullivan, 41, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. Even though Richard knew many struggles in this life, he clung to his favorite verse, Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
He was born on April 26, 1972, to the late Donald C. Sullivan and Mary Ann (Sullivan) Owens. He grew up in Ontonagon and graduated from Ontonagon Area Schools in 1990. After graduation Richard moved to Phoenix, where he met and married Heather Roy. He relocated to Iron Mountain several years ago to be close to his family.
Richard loved spending time with his family and loved playing Smear and other games. He also enjoyed boating, traveling, playing horse shoes, fishing, kayaking with his sisters, going to the beach and picnicking.
His infectious smile and laughter easily drew you to him. He had a good heart and would always help someone without expecting anything in return. He was a very loving son and will be terribly missed by his mother, sisters, brother and all who knew him.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Douglas H. and Mary (Millie) Bussiere of Ontonagon.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Ann (Daniel) Owens of Iron Mountain; two sisters, Donna (Robert) McMullen of Hancock and Samantha (Steve) Coron on Kingsford; and a brother, Kelly Sullivan of Peoria, Ariz.; along with many nieces and nephews.
A small memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Community Church on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steve Petry officiating.
