CRYSTAL FALLS – Thomas “Tom” Williams, 88, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, in Canton, Ga., surrounded by his family.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1925, in Crystal Falls, son of the late James T. and Agnes C. (Carlstrom) Williams.
Tom was a lifelong resident of Crystal Falls. He attended Crystal Falls Schools, graduating from Crystal Falls High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving on the frontline in Italy during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned home. Tom married Grace Willman in June 1949, and they spent nearly 65 wonderful years together. Tom first went to work as a diamond driller. He then started in the dairy business at Crystal Dairy, eventually working with Vacationland Dairy and Bancroft Dairy as a distributor and manager. During this time, he had a sand and gravel business in the Crystal Falls area. Tom and his two sons built the Williams Mini-Mall and in 1974, Tom started Williams Trucking and continued with the company until his retirement.
Tom was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Tufts-Rondon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2891, American Legion Post 87, and the Crystal Falls Lions Club. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Tom cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Lucille Byerly.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Grace Williams of Crystal Falls; his children, Duane (Debbi) Williams of Crystal Falls, Dennis (Debra Kay) Williams of Crystal Falls, and Donna (Dale) Bowman of Canton; also a brother, Donald (Kathy) Williams of Black Earth, Wis.
His grandchildren are Tommy (Jen) Williams, Nicki (Jason) Price, Bobbie Jo (Robb) Anderson, Tyler (Sarah) Williams, Todd Williams, Jack and Will Bowman; great-grandchildren are Elsie, Audrey, and Isaac Williams, Vienna and Lyle Price, Harper, Evie, and Josie Anderson, Clayton, Trevor, and Tanner Williams,
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls.
The funeral service will follow at noon at the church. Rev. Nate Reed will officiate. The Eastside Veterans Council will conduct a Pass-in-Review at 11:45 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in the spring.
