NORWAY – Dorothy L. Anderson, 82, of Norway, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014.
She was born in Oakland, Calif., on Oct. 30, 1931, the daughter of the late Everett and Alama (Johanna) McDonald.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Leonard Anderson on Jan. 20, 1951, in Reno, Nev. She followed him all over the United States for 20 years while he was in the U.S. Navy. He preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 2003.
Dorothy put in many hours volunteering at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center and helped many local people by serving with the Norway branch of St. Vincent de Paul. She owned and operated a tropical fish store in her home basement for many years and owned and operated a craft store in Norway.
She enjoyed doing crafts and going to the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Allen (Jennifer) Anderson of Iron Mountain and Chuck (Carol) Anderson of Norway; daughters, Kathleen (Ron) Vivio of Norway and Ginger Anderson of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Jaime (Robert) Miller of Traverse City, Brian Anderson in the Navy, Luke Vivio of Avon, Colo., and Kyle Vivio of Grand Rapids; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Maxwell Miller; brother, Russell (Genevieve) McDonald of Oregon; brother-in-law, Earl (Roberta) Anderson of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews; and her constant companion, “Peanut” her dog.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta; and her brother, Everett.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Norway Township Cemetery with Fr. Timothy Ekaitis presiding.
