Nordics coming on
FELCH – North Dickinson woke up from a slow start and rattled North Central 63-36 in a girls Skyline Conference basketball game Monday.
Elizabeth Charlevoix scored a game-high 16 points, and Miranda Jacobson put in 10 more to lead a balanced Nordics scoring sheet.
“After a lackadaisical start, we really played well,” North Dickinson coach Mike Roell said. “We controlled the rest of the game.”
North Dickinson trailed by seven after the opening frame but made up the deficit with a 16-4 advantage in the second quarter.
“The kids really worked hard, passed the ball really well and played very good defense,” Roell said. “We started rebounding too.
“I thought it was a good team effort, a good win for us.”
Morgan Wells led the Jets with 12 points, the only North Central player to hit double digits.
The late-season surge now has the Nordics up to 5-12 for the year – three of those wins coming over the past five games. ND also moved above .500 in league play at 5-4.
“I see some improvement,” Roell noted. “It we keep coming on, we could be a spoiler come tournament time. When we’re playing well, we can hang in there with just about anybody.”
Nordics also won the JV game.
North Dickinson visits Forest Park Thursday, while North Central hosts Rapid River, Thursday.
