Negaunee State Police arrest Skandia man

NEGAUNEE – Troopers from the Negaunee State Police Post were sent to a report of a possible suicide on Yalmer Road in Skandia Township at approximately 3:40 a.m. Monday morning.

Troopers were told the subject had a shotgun, and was at large out behind the residence. The individual who placed the 911 call told police he believed the subject may have shot himself.

Contact was made with the subject, a 36-year old Skandia man, after troopers followed foot prints to an unoccupied residence he had broken into. Troopers were able to talk the the man into coming out of the residence peacefully after a short time, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The Negaunee State Police said they will be seeking prosecution on several felony charges as an investigation showed the subject had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, and had broken into a neighboring residence.

The subject is currently at Marquette General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and pends clearance to be lodged at the Marquette County Jail on outstanding warrants.
