Fence home ruined in fire
FLORENCE, Wis. – Seven fire departments responded to a residential structure fire at 561 Ben Nichols Lane in the Town of Fence on Sunday. The home belonged to James and Cindy Nichols.
The Florence County 911 center received a call at 12:26 p.m. The call was placed by a neighbor and initially it was unknown if anyone was in the home. Initial respondents confirmed that there was one person home, but he had escaped prior to the fire.
Fire departments from Fence, Aurora, Homestead, Florence, Goodman, Long Lake and Breitung Township were called to the scene to supply water and manpower.
The departments worked together to haul water from Aurora, Long Lake and Goodman in order to extinguish the flames. Aurora Rescue provided medical coverage during the incident.
The American Red Cross was summoned to assist the Nichols family as the structure suffered severe damage and they lost nearly everything in the fire. No one was injured.
The Nichols family thanked everyone who provided help and support during the event.
