Flivvers downed by Marysville
CHELSEA – Kingsford closed out the Michigan Public High School Hockey Invitational Showcase with a 5-3 loss to Marysville at the Chelsea Arctic Coliseum Saturday.
The Flivvers (3-15), despite giving up two power play goals, battled to a 2-2 tie at 12:30 of the second period. The Vikings (6-14) pulled ahead 3-2 one minute later.
Kingsford missed out on a two-man advantage for 55 seconds of the second period. The Flivvers also failed on two other second-period power play opportunities.
In the third period, Andrew Zander’s power-play goal cut the Flivver deficit to 4-3. But the Vikings responded quickly for a two-goal cushion.
Luke Wahoviak and Cody Tompkins also tallied goals for Kingsford while Alex Wiitanen and Adam Szabo had assists. Wes Paupore was in goal for the Flivvers.
Kingsford and Northland Pines (16-3-1) of Eagle River, Wis., clash at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Arena.
