WHITE LAKE, Wis. – Goodman-Pembine clinched at least a share of its first Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball championship with a 71-41 decision over White Lake Friday.

The Patriots’ 17th straight win wraps up the first NLC title in Pembine school history; the first for Goodman since 1994.

“There’s so much that goes into a season-long accomplishment like this,” Patriots coach Paul Whitt said. “The obvious thing is the hard work and improvement of the team, and that has certainly been there. You also need guys to stay healthy, hungry, and focused, and not get complacent.

“This team has stayed that way. But more than anything this team loves and trusts each other. They spend more time together off the court than on, which is tough when some of them go to different schools all day. But they make it work and are a family more than a team. I’m so happy for the boys.”

Austin Glanzer led the Patriots with 18 points and 5 steals, followed by Trent Heath, 17 and 5 assists; Alex Whitt, 11 with 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals, and Randall Bose, 10 points.

“We achieved most of our goals for tonight’s game,” coach Whitt said. “We wanted to shoot over 50 percent from the field, get 20 assists, and ten steals. We got to play everyone good minutes, got other guys some rest, and no one got hurt.

“White Lake is building a program, and I think they’re doing it the right way, building from the youth level.”

The Patriots owned a 42-15 halftime lead.

“I’m just very happy for our students, community and fans,” Whitt said. “We’re thankful for their support. But we have more goals we want to achieve.”

The Patriots (17-1, 13-0) travel to Crivitz tonight (7:15 p.m. varsity start) and Crandon Thursday.

Goodman-Pembine lost the jayvee game, 44-38.
