Nordics go to the wire with Hawks

Post 32-30 win

REPUBLIC – Reggie Johnson sank two free throws in the final seconds and North Dickinson nipped Republic-Michigamme 32-30 in Skyline Conference boys basketball Friday.

The Hawks missed two free throws with no time showing in the game.

“It was a grind it out game,” Nordics coach Chris Mattson said. “We knew it wouldn’t be easy.”

Marcus Antilla scored 11 of his team-high 12 points in the first quarter when the Hawks moved to a 14-4 lead. Noah Berg, Johnson and Logan O’Neil then put the clamps on Antilla.

“Those kids did a nice job taking his scoring away,” Mattson said.

O’Neil’s 15 points led the Nordics, who trailed 20-12 at halftime.

The Nordics (9-5, 4-5) visit North Central Tuesday.

North Dickinson won the junior varsity game.
