Lena Marulli celebrates her 100th birthday

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. – Lena Marulli of Iron Mountain celebrated her 100th birthday with a “surprise” pizza party at Gina Marie’s in Spread Eagle, Wis.

Her sister, Corky Newingham, 93, of Aurora, Wis., was among the guests. Newingham’s daughter, Dawn Wahlstrom of Aurora, shares the same birth date as her aunt – Jan. 29.

Family and friends attending the gathering included Lenny and Dawn Wahlstrom; Gina Marie and Troy Frappier; Dennis Newingham; Helga Anderson; Larry and Marybeth Canavera; Jeff and Peggy Freeman; Irene and Jack Donovan; Bernice Erickson; Hannah Dabb; Diane and John Aune; Michael, Judy, Haley and Brooke Newingham; Jule, Jay, Lori and Jessica Glime; Jeffrey and Eric Freeman; Jordan Monosso; Kennedy Schewe; Leonard Wahlstrom III and LaVaya Wahlstrom; and Mark Monosso.

Described as kind-hearted and generous by her family, including many nieces and nephews, Lena is known for her cooking skills and her special talent for baking pizzelles.

Lena was born in Iron Mountain in 1914. She worked many years at Schinderle’s Bakery and also at Perfix.
