Flivvers first at Kingsford Invitational

KINGSFORD – Less than a point decided the Kingsford Invitational competitive cheerleading meet Thursday.

The host Flivvers compiled a 732.02 score to nip runner-up Gladstone at 731.03 in Division 3. Escanaba placed third with 713.16.

“What a phenomenal night of competitive cheer,” Kingsford Coach Sara Pericolosi said. “We had our best overall score of the year, and one of our all-time highest.”

Escanaba, 224.3, topped Kingsford, 222.4, and Gladstone, 220.6, after the first round. The Eskymos, tagged with 16 penalty points, also stood out in the second round but slipped in the third.

“We focused on our second round this week which showed in our score,” said Pericolosi, her Flivvers posting 210.2 points for the second round. “I’m incredibly proud of this team and how far they’ve come.

“It was such a great night. Competitive cheer was at its best tonight.”

In Division 4, Manistique (713.6) defeated Norway (662.1).
