Trojans blow out Jet girls

CRYSTAL FALLS – A triple double by Lexi Gussert led the stat sheet for Forest Park in a 73-27 whitewash over North Central Friday night in Skyline girls hoops, but it was the rest of the Lady Trojans who helped spring the team out to a big first-quarter lead.

Gussert scored game highs with 24 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists but teammates Kendra Campbell, Sierra Robarge and Maria Stankewicz all had points before Gussert as the Lady Trojans opened a 29-1 lead in the first.

“They came out in a box and one defense, but I think other teams sometimes forget that we have other kids who can shoot,” Forest Park coach Jeff Syrjanen said. “Campbell hit a three, Stankewicz hit a couple, and Robarge, she just had an outstanding first period.”

Robarge hit four shots in a row in the first quarter, including two 3s, on her way to a 12-point night. Stankewicz scored eight points, and Campbell added seven. Jessica Bawyn also collected eight points in a game in which 11 Lady Trojans recorded points.

Gussert got going with a pair of triples. She hit four in the game.

The Trojans employed a full-court press to start the game, forcing North Central into several turnovers.

“We are trying to improve in all phases of our game,” Syrjanen said. “This week we really focussed on defense. And our defense played extremely well tonight.”

Morgan Wells led the Jets (4-6, 3-4) with 12 points.

FP’s jayvees also won to remain undefeated.

The Lady Trojans (11-0, 8-0) head to Iron Mountain Monday.
