Robert F. Dallapiazza
KINGSFORD – Robert F. Dallapiazza, 92, of Kingsford, passed away surround by his family on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Bob was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Norway, Mich., son of the late Angelo and Anna (Ossanna) Dallapiazza.
Bob graduated from Norway High School in 1939 and was a lifelong resident of the area. He played on the undefeated state championship football team in 1939 which was named the “Vulcan Giant Killers.”
Bob married Janice Schoen on June 9, 1951, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Perronville and she preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2004.
He was a member of the Local Union No. 783 out of Marquette and worked as an ironworker for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. Bob also owned and operated the Tabu Bar in Quinnesec for several years.
He was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Bishop Baraga Council 1585. Bob was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying deer and rabbit hunting, trout fishing and going to camp. He cherished spending time with family and had a special love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his twin daughters, Shelly (Tim) Hanson of Duluth, Minn. and Sheryl (Peter) Carobine of Kingsford; twin sons, Robbie Dallapiazza of Kingsford and Rick (Meg) Dallapiazza of Spread Eagle, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, Erik (Nancy) Hanson, Katie (Jon) Laney, Krissy (Zach) Rick, Elizabeth (Larry) Benz, Sara (Ryan) Pericolosi, Robby, Nick (Caitlin), Casey, and McKenna Dallapiazza, Robert (Erin), Mariana, and Meggie Dallapiazza; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice, and sister, Frances Bosak.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Paul Nomellini will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.
Bob’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetic Association or charities that aid the research, development and support of children with Downs Syndrome.
