Hilberg named new Iron County Clerk

CRYSTAL FALLS – Diane Hilberg of Crystal Falls has been appointed to the position of Iron County Clerk following the retirement of former clerk Joan Luhtanen at the end of 2013.

Dickinson County Circuit Court Judges Mary B. Barglind and Richard Celello were in charge of conducting interviews for the position and making the appointment.

Hilberg has been working in various offices within the Iron County Courthouse for the past 34 years. She held positions in the county administrator’s office, construction code office, and county treasurer’s office.

Hilberg spent the past 20 years in the county clerk’s office. Her most recent position was the senior accounting clerk.

With her experience, Hilberg felt that she was a good candidate for county clerk.

“I know the office and I can help with a smooth transition,” she said.

Julie Kezerle, who was a part-time employee in Iron County’s equalization department, has taken over Hilberg’s former position in the clerk’s office.

Although Luhtanen’s original term does not expire until 2016, state law requires Hilberg to run in a special election later this year. There will still be a general election for county clerk in 2016.
