Patricia “Patty” J. Waite

IRON RIVER – Patricia “Patty” J. Waite, 58, of Iron River, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at her home.

She was born Jan. 30, 1955, in Stambaugh, the daughter of John “Jack” D. and Bernice (Ratagick) Waite. She attended Iron River schools, graduating from West Iron County High School with the class of 1973. She later attended Gogebic Community College for two years for her associate degree and became a bookkeeper and tax consultant. She owned and operated Martin Accounting for the past 32 years.

Patty was an active community leader and helped on various committees and with numerous community events. She was a member of the Northstar Hospital Foundation, Friends of the Library, and was on the Friends of Camp Batawagama Board. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and the St. Agnes Altar Society. She previously sat on the board of directors at the Iron County Historical and Museum Society, and the Museum Endowment Board. She was selected as Past Historian of the Year. Patty was also instrumental in starting the Miss Rodeo Michigan program and was a past 4-H Leader. She was a contributor to Wildlife Unlimited and sponsored numerous youth groups, including Youth Football and Little League Baseball.

Patty will always be remembered for touching so many lives in unselfish ways.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack in 2008; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Waite.

Patty is survived by her mother, Bernice; six brothers, John (Debbie) Waite of Iron River, Donald Waite of Eagle River, Wis., Michael (Theresa) Waite of Almont, Tom Waite of Iron River, Ray Waite of Iron River, Tim (Billie Jo) Waite of Caspian; six sisters, Peggy (Leo) Angeloff of Quinnesec, Carol (David) Callovi of Iron River, Donna (Peter) Paraventi of Iron River, Mary Jo (Herbert) Hoover of Alvin, Wis., Joan Waite of Iron River and Barbara (Steven) Penkevich of South Lyons; special aunts, Luree “Lou” Baumgartner of Iron River and Dorothy Keiser of Hillsdale; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in the spring.
