Wender named county board chair

IRON MOUNTAIN – Henry Wender of Breitung Township will serve a seventh straight year as chairman of the Dickinson County Board of Commissioners.

Wender, a 25-year veteran of the board, was elected at Thursday’s reorganizational meeting of the board. He has served as chairman since 2008.

John Degenaer Jr. of Norway, who is entering his 16th year on the board, was named vice chairman, succeeding Commissioner Joe Stevens. Degenaer previously served as finance chairman.

The board expects to name a finance chairman later this month.

Other members of the board are Ann Martin of Iron Mountain, who is starting her 10th year, and Barbara Kramer of Iron Mountain, who is entering her second year. Stevens, of Kingsford, is starting his 20th year.

Wender previously chaired the board from 2003 through 2005, and in 1990.

The board will continue to hold its regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the circuit courtroom of the courthouse.

Republicans outnumber Democrats 4-1 on the board, with Degenaer the only Democrat.
