Liz Greenway

FLORENCE, Wis. – Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Greenway, 57, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, in Green Bay, Wis., following a sudden and brief illness.

Liz was born on Sept. 15, 1956, in Bethesda, Md., but lived most of her life in the Dallas area. She graduated from J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas, after which she attended Stephen F. Austin University. She moved to Tehran, Iran, in 1975, where her father was a contractor for Rockwell International. After returning to the United States in 1977, Liz worked for many years as an IT consultant to major telecom companies in Dallas. She moved to Florence in 2008, in spite of the cold, to be near family.

Liz’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her nieces, nephews and their children, who knew her as “cool Aunt Liz.” She also loved the Dallas Cowboys, attending the Dallas Symphony with her mother, heated political discussions, and partying at the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival with her friends. Liz was especially loved for her generous and dedicated friendship, and her Texas sense of humor.

Liz is survived by her sisters, Kathryn (Ed) Ambrozich of Florence and Barbara Roberts of Annapolis, Md.; nieces, Kara Sammet, Stacey Whitaker, Kristin Swanton, and Stacy Ambrozich; nephews, Sean Roberts and Todd Roberts; nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews; numerous “Kansas” cousins; and many dear friends, both old and new.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maj. Robert James Greenway, (USMC Ret.) in 1991 and Elvora Greenway in 2006, both of Richardson.

A celebration of Liz’s life will be held in La Crosse, Kan.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Almost Home Animal Shelter, 5060 Lincoln St., Quinnesec, MI 49876,, where her beloved cats, Ozzy and Lucy, have been placed for adoption.
